AUSTRALIA TO GET ITS OWN INTEGRATED DEFENCE
& SECURITY EXHIBITION
Asia-Pacific Defence and Security (APDS) Exhibition and Conference
11 – 13 November 2008 at the Adelaide Convention Centre
Asia-Pacific Defence and Security (APDS) Exhibition and Conference
is the all-new biennial event created to meet the local and international
aspirations of the defence and security industries in Australia.
It will be operated in partnership with the Government of South
Australia.
Executive Director Alex Nicholl said: “APDS is the first
event that truly represents all elements of the defence and security
industries in the Asia-Pacific market. It will meet the defence
and security challenges and requirements in the Region face-to-face.
“APDS has selected South Australia as the venue for this
exciting new exhibition because it is the high technology centre
of Australia's defence industry and the Asia-Pacific regional
headquarters and operations of some of the world's leading defence
companies. South Australia leads the way in a number of defence-related
areas including naval shipbuilding, submarine support, systems
integration, electronic warfare, land force vehicles, aerospace,
surveillance, and defence research and development.”
He added that, “as the differentiation between defence
and security is becoming increasingly blurred, the technology
developed primarily for defence applications is both relevant
and required to meet the existing threats to national and international
security. We aim to make delegates aware of the latest and best
that industry has to offer. The State's rich and diverse economy
spearheaded by strong defence, electronics, ICT, manufacturing
and minerals and resources sectors, makes South Australia the
preferred location for an international tri-service and security
event.”
Export focus
Asia-Pacific Defence and Security is launched to specifically
address the Australian Federal and State of South Australia Government
objectives which include sustaining the priority areas of local
defence and security industries as well as maintaining the supply
chain to deliver best value for money.
As well as supporting Australian defence technology export, APDS
has set its priorities to play an active role, including assisting
with the development of the defence and security skills base and
encouraging small and medium enterprises domestically and in the
global market.
APDS is a three-day exhibition and a supporting two-day conference
held in the Adelaide Convention Centre, South Australia, with
the launch event scheduled for 11 – 13 November 2008. It
will provide the optimal business environment to meet the requirements
of both the defence and security industries.
APDS visitors are expected to include:
• International ministers and chiefs of staff
• Central government agencies and senior defence staff involved
in defence procurement
• The user community of Army, Navy and Air Force personnel
• Security and Counter-Terrorism specialists
• Emergency services
• Police and law enforcement
• Customs and Excise
• Trade, national and international media
Integrated Solutions
